ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Senior Adrian Myers notched an NCAA Division II indoor provisional with a second-place finish in the men's mile, highlighting a strong showing by the Flyers at the Dick Pond Open Friday evening. Flyers student athletes turned in 17 first or second place finishes in the 30-evetn meet, which was not a team-scoring competition. In addition 27 Flyer individual performances marked a personal and or season best. Myers' provisional in the mile (4:13.32) was a second-place finish and a season best. The men received event wins from sophomore Austin Bailey, setting a personal best in the 200 (22.94); sophomore Randy Hinton, a personal best in the 400 (50.51); and sophomore Scott Barnas with his third provisional mark in the shot put (16.18 meters). Other top finishes for the men came from seniors Chance Eiker and Jeff Zoellick, tied for second in the pole vault (4.45 meters); sophomore James Knaperek, third in the 55-meter hurdles (8.08); sophomore Chris Gormand and senior Jeff Zoellick, tied for third in the high jump (1.80 meters); freshman Chris Leibrand, third with a personal best in the 200 (23.28); and freshman Adam Zaremba, third in the 400 (52.13). Personal/season bests were also set by sophomore Donnie Lesnick, fourth in the 200 (23.34); senior Andrew Northrup, eighth in the mile (4:24.85); senior Sinan Khamo, 15th in the mile (4:33.71); junior Ben Holliman, 11th in the long jump (5.93 meters); and Gorman, fifth in the triple jump (12.88 meters) and seventh in the long jump (6.14 meters). On the women's side, freshman Samantha Linck won the high jump with a personal best 1.65 meters, and sophomore Christine Kustra set a personal best and won the triple jump (11.26 meters). Kustra also placed second in the 55-meter hurdles (8.77). Sophomore Ashley Butler won the long jump (5.38 meters), and she also took second in the 55 (7.34). Senior Sarah King took first in the pole vault (3.20 meters). Other top finishes came from sophomore Michelle Ruff, second in the 200 (26.10); junior Amanda Lewis, second with a season-best in the 400 (1:02.51); senior Kristin Johnson, second with a season best in the 1000 (3:12.52); senior Erin Mitchell, second in the pole vault (3.05 meters); and junior Millennium Wheeler, second with a season best in the long jump (5.21 meters). Personal bests were also turned in by freshman Maggie Boban, third in the 200 (26.47); freshman Kellsi Howell, third in the 800 (2:24.90); senior Kellie Lederman, fourth in the 800 (2:25.83); freshman Hailey Justes, sixth in the 800 (2:27.65); freshman Danielle Thompson, third in the 1000 (3:12.82); freshman Kathryn Hague, third in the mile (5:17.78); junior Becky Herbert, third in the 3000 (10:58.37); and freshman Kelsey Boland, during a preliminary in the 55-meter hurdles (9.99). The Flyers compete next at the GLVC Championships on March 1. |
