CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. - Lewis University finished second in the women's standings and third in the men's competition Saturday at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships. Southern Illinois Edwardsville won both the men's and women's title. The men secured 224 points, while the women totaled 270. Lewis' men scored 90 points, while the women amassed 91.5. Indianapolis (144 points) finished second between Lewis and SIUE in the men's standings. Lewis athletes earned seven All-GLVC awards (three men's, four women's). On the women's side, sophomore Ashley Butler won the 55 (7.24), setting a personal best and just missing the NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Butler also scored for Lewis with a third-place showing in the high jump (5.67 meters). Three other Lewis women earned All-GLVC second team honors by turning in top performances. Sophomore Christine Kustra was third in the 55-meter hurdles (8.57) and the triple jump (11.32 meters). Junior Rachel Quintana was third in the shot put (11.68 meters), and senior Terran Wertz was fourth in the 800 (2:18.78). The men's all-conference accolades went to senior Adrian Myers for his win in the 800 (1:54.08), and he also was second in the mile (4:23.86). Senior Andrew Northrup won the mile (4:23.68) for Lewis. He also came back with a strong showing in the 3000, coming in third place (8:47.32). Sophomore Scott Barnas was second in the shot put (15.48 meters). Lewis this weekend will have one athlete competing at the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships. Wertz will compete in the 800. The meet takes place Friday and Saturday at Minnesota-State Mankato. |
