Many Season Bests Set At D-II Challenge

EMPORIA, Kan. - The Lewis University track and field team claimed 11 top-five finishes at the Papa Johns Division II Challenge held Friday and Saturday at Emporia State University. The Lewis men finished seventh among 12 teams, while the women were ninth.

Top-five performances for the women were turned in by sophomore Christine Kustra, second with an outdoor season best in the triple jump (37-9 ½) and fifth in the heptathlon (4251); junior Rachel Quintana, fourth in the hammer throw (140-8); sophomore Ashley Butler, fifth with an outdoor season best in the 100-meter dash (12.50); and junior Millennium Wheeler, fifth with a an outdoor season best in the triple jump (36-9 ¾).

Quintana also secured an outdoor season best with a sixth-place showing in the discus (124-11). Senior Kelle Lederman posted an outdoor season best with an eighth-place finish in the 800 (2:25.17), senior Cassidy Domagalla set her outdoor season best and finished ninth in the javelin (102-9), and freshman Lauren Hajduk recorded an outdoor season best with her ninth-place in the hammer throw (97-2).

Two additional personal bests for the outdoor season came from senior Angela Whalen, 14th in the 800 (2:28.57), and freshman Jasmine Crenshaw, 31st in the 200 (28.01).

The men's top finishers included sophomore Scott Barnas, fourth in the shot put (51-8 ½); senior Adrian Myers, fourth in the 1500 (4:01.40); senior Brian Pedersen, fourth in the 400 (50.20); senior Dan Probst, fifth with a season best in the discus (157-10); freshman Adam Zaremba, fifth in the 400-meter hurdles (57.20); and sophomore Randy Hinton, fifth in the 400 (50.51) and fifth in the 200 (22.09).

Zaremba added a personal season best in the preliminaries of the 100-meter hurdles (15.67), while Hinton clocked a season best in the prelims of the 100 (10.98). Other season bests for the men came from freshman Matt Schultz, eighth in the pole vault (14-1 ¼), senior Brian Damhoff, 15th in the long jump (19-7), and junior Ben Holliman, 17th in the long jump (18-6).

The Flyers will split their squad this weekend, with some participating at the Kansas Relays on Friday and Saturday, and others headed for the Benedictine Invitational on Saturday.
