Aug. 3, 2007

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Lewis University women's tennis team has earned recognition as a 2007 Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Team, and seven of the team's eight players were named ITA Scholar Athletes.

The Flyers were one of 43 teams in NCAA Division II to receive the team honor. The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). Lewis posted a 3.70 team GPA for the 2006-07 academic year.

Lewis' individual scholar athletes were seniors Katie Popp and Vicky Orlova, juniors Melanie Sandberg and Allison Schmitz, sophomores Jordan Lynde and Michelle Wright and freshman Kellie Griffin. In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must have a grade point average of at least 3.50.

For the Lewis men, senior Mike Maretich received ITA Scholar Athlete recognition.
