Rick Banis is in his second season as an assistant coach with Lewis.

Banis brings over 10 years of volleyball experience both as a player and a coach, having played collegiate volleyball at Newman University under head coach Dan Friend. At Newman, Banis served as a team captain, playing opposite and outside hitter. He earned all-conference honors and was named team MVP.

Banis' playing days began while he was in the U.S. Air Force. Following his five-and -half years in the Air Force, Banis moved to Tulsa, Okla. where he continued to play and coach Junior Olympic volleyball.

Banis also was the assistant varsity and head junior varsity coach for Bishop Kelly High School. The varsity team won back-to-back state championships while he was there, going a combined 130-0-3.

Banis graduated from Newman with a B.S. in psychology and sociology.
