ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Senior Jared Dayton had a match-high 12 kills but No. 10 Ohio State defeated No. 15 Lewis 3-0 (30-27, 30-23, 30-22) in a Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association match at Neil Carey Arena on Wednesday evening.

Dayton also had eight digs and two blocks (one solo). Freshman Brian Muesenfechter also knocked home double-digit kills with ten. Junior Billy Sahagian hit .500 with nine kills and four block assists. Junior Drew Pickering had eight kills and five blocks (one solo).

Game one was tied five times and featured five lead changes. The Buckeyes took their largest lead of the game at 23-17. But a 9-2 run by the Flyers gave Lewis the lead at 26-25. The Buckeyes called a timeout to stop the Lewis momentum, and it worked. Ohio State scored the next three straight points and took control.

Game two was all Ohio State with the Flyers never holding a lead.

The Flyers started game three on fire, storming to a 13-8 lead. But the Buckeyes scored the next six points and took a 14-13 advantage. Lewis tied it at 14 but after an attack error by Dayton gave the Buckeyes a 15-14 lead, the Flyers never rallied to tie it again.

Jason Tobkin led the Buckeyes with 11 kills. Brett Versen and Robbie Klein recorded 10.

The Flyers fall to 16-7 (5-3 MIVA). The Buckeyes improve to 11-6 (7-1 MIVA).

Lewis hosts Carthage at 7 p.m. next Wednesday at Neil Carey Arena in a non-conference match.
