May 11, 2007 ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Four Grand Valley State players collected at least three RBI Friday as the No. 4 seed Lakers easily handled No. 8 Shepherd 14-1 in a Division II Great Lakes Regional Championship elimination game. Kristin Moleski was 4-for-4 with four RBI including a three-run home run that gave Grand Valley State (33-17) a first-inning lead. The Lakers scored three more times in the second and exploded for eight runs in the third. Sarah Holland and Lisa Preuss hit three-run homers, and Elizabeth Smith delivered a single that registered two of her three RBI. Shepherd (31-19) scored its only run in the second inning on a balk. Nichole Woityra was 4-for-4 for the Lakers, who tallied 18 hits off three Shepherd pitchers. Crista Buresh had two hits and an RBI while Holland, Smith and Karen Walters all enjoyed two-hit performances. Grand Valley State pitcher Stephanie Cole (15-7) struck out six and allowed no earned runs, four hits and two walks. |
