May 11, 2007 ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - An eight-run first inning powered No. 6 seed Ferris State to a 12-4, six-inning decision over No. 7 Missouri-Rolla Friday in the winner's bracket of the Division II Great Lakes Regional. Missouri-Rolla (29-17) took advantage of three Ferris State errors to grab a 3-0 advantage in the top of the first. Kelsey Musselman and Emily Tucker produced RBI singles, and the third run scored on an error. The big blows for Ferris State (31-15) in the bottom of the inning were three-run home runs off the bats of Laura Crower and Sarah Mueller. Amanda Jager and Katie Kraai contributed RBI singles for the Bulldogs. Ferris State added a run in the second on McKenzie West's RBI single; two runs in the fifth on Mueller's double and a groundout by Amanda Harrington; and a final marker in the sixth on Jager's leadoff homer. Ashley Winter led off the third with a single and scored on Musselman's double for Missouri-Rolla's final run. Mueller was 3-for-4 to pace Ferris State's 13-hit attack. Holly Bruntjens was 2-for-3 including a double, and Jager was 2-for-4. Musselman and Winter each had two hits for Missouri-Rolla. Bruntjens (14-5) went the distance in the circle and yielded two earned runs, six hits and a walk while striking out two. Ashley Wallingford (10-6) took the loss. |
