May 12, 2007 ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Lisa Seymour's RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning Saturday pushed No. 5 seed Wayne State past No. 3 seed Gannon 2-1 in a Division II Great Lakes Regional elimination game. Seymour's game-winning hit, scoring pinch-runner Laura Guzman, followed a leadoff single by Sarah Berry, a bunt single by Meredith Boxberger and a sacrifice by Robyn Haig. Wayne State (41-16) took a 1-0 edge in the first. With two outs, Berry and Boxberger walked and Haig delivered an RBI single. Gannon (38-15), ranked 23rd nationally, produced a two-out rally of its own to pull even in the fifth. Katie Conner doubled and scooted home on Kara Hensley's pinch-hit double. Both starting pitchers went the distance. Wayne State's Molly Yetman (24-4) struck out 11 and allowed just three hits and two walks. Gannon's Jenn Kulick (20-9) yielded six hits and two walks while fanning four in six innings of work. |
