ALLENDALE, Mich. - No. 17 Lewis plays No. 6 Grand Valley State for the Great Lakes Region Championship today at 6 p.m. CT. Click HERE for live stats. Lewis and Grand Valley State have only met once. Last season in the first round of the Great Lakes Region the Lakers defeated Lewis 3-1 (30-22, 30-18, 30-32, 30-28) to end the Flyers' season. Both squads enter tonight's match with identical 32-3 records. For Lewis, their 32 wins mark the most single-season victories since 1981. Both squads are also conference champions, Grand Valley State winners of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Association and Lewis champions of the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Flyers had to rally from down 0-2 against No. 15 Ashland in the first round and 1-2 against No. 20 Indianapolis in the semifinals to advance to the finals. Grand Valley State defeated Charleston 3-0 and No. 13 Southern Illinois Edwardsville 3-1 to make the finals. Should the Flyers win the Great Lakes Region they would play the winner of the Southwest Region at nationals on Nov. 29 |
