Oct. 23, 2004 ALEXANDRIA, Ky. - Terran Wertz and Tarah Sobodas finished among the top 30 runners Saturday as the Lewis University women's cross country team placed seventh at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship. Wertz finished 23rd, running the 6,000-meter route in 24:14.98, while Sobodas placed 27th in 24:25.53. Theresa Dexl (40th, 25:21.08), Juliann Szablewski (43rd, 25:28.43) and Amanda Hammond (53rd, 26:20.87) rounded out the Flyers' scoring contingent. Also competing for Lewis were Traci Hoglund (56th, 26:39.70), Erin White (65th, 28:15.72) and Stormie Surles (71st, 33:20.73). The Flyers were hampered by the loss of two of their top athletes. Becky Herbert, who has established herself as the team's top runner, was forced to withdraw from the race at the 2 1/2-mile mark because of illness. Rachel Johnson, the Flyers' No. 4 runner, was unable to race because of an injury. |
